My go-to way of switching out my wardrobe is turning my “old clothes” (which usually aren’t “old” at all) is to post them in my Poshmark app Closet, wait for the right buyer (or offer, I love offers!) and then take that money either to the store, or buying myself something new within Poshmark itself.
We are in full Spring mode and headed into sweet Summer weather very soon.
And I don’t know about you, but once we get a few weeks of warmer weather here in New England, I get the itch to take out all of my summer clothes.
But what happens when you’re really not feeling the clothes you have anymore? Or maybe they don’t fit – too big or too small, either way they’re pretty much useless to you.
Either way, it’s always fun getting new clothes. I live by the motto that retail therapy is the best form of therapy.
I’ve had some pretty consistent months as a seller and would love to share some tips from the inside.
Here are some of the best ways to maximize your sales on the Poshmark app, in no certain order.
1. Be Honest With Your Descriptions
I cannot stress how important it is to be open and honest when describing your items in your listings. If there is a small but discreet stain, say it. Share the measurements, it will save you some back and forth with potential buyers as well as help you avoid an unhappy buyer (and return). It’s important to include closeups of any imperfections. If you got the item somewhere special, include that too! Anything to help the buyer get the full details on the item will set you both up for success. Which leads us right into the next tip…
2. Take Great Photos
Don’t be shy with the photos, the more the better! It’s equally important to have many photos as it is to have great photos. Close-ups are great, especially for imperfections. Always use natural lighting whenever possible to capture the color and condition perfectly. Utilize any of the million photo editing apps out there to improve lighting and the quality of your photos.
3. Sharing is Caring
Poshmark is very much a “social” platform in that it is as important to share others items as it is your own. When someone shares a pair of jeans from your closet to their following, return the favor and share something from theirs! Set up a social media account for your closet and share your items their as well! Pinterest is my favorite method for my closet.
4. Keep Your Closet Fresh
It’s important to keep your closet full if you want to maximize your sales. I have even heard of sellers deleting items that have been up for awhile and re-listing it with a fresh new posting.
I try to keep 75-100 items in my closet at any given time and try my best to add a few new items per week. I also recommend having a good mix between new and used items.

5. Include Variety among Sizes and Styles
It’s important to include a variety of styles, brands, and sizes to reach many different types of buyers. Something for everyone! It’s great to cover a diverse clientele and gets your closet in front of many different people which is great exposure.
I am plus-size but I probably have a small amount of plus-size items listed at any given time (they move quickly! hint hint).
6. Ship Your Sales ASAP
As soon as someone purchases an item, you receive the prepaid shipping label via email so get into the habit of printing the labels right away too!
Poshmark releases the hold on your sales funds 3-4 business days after the sale, so the sooner you ship, the quicker you get paid! I always appreciate a fast shipper when I purchase an item on Poshmark.
7. Keep an Inventory of Packaging and Shipping Items
Stay stocked up on packing tape, boxes of various sizes and bubble wrap. If you’re using a lot ink or other office supplies on a consistent basis, set up an autoship subscription with Amazon! It really can be such a lifesaver.
In fact, you can even get free USPS Priority packaging sent to your home. It’s completely free and since Posh uses Priority mail anyway, why not use the benefits to your advantage. And don’t forget, you can even schedule a carrier pickup if it is offered in your area. So you literally don’t even need to go the post office, no matter how many packages you need to ship out.
Also while we are on the topic, do not use the “flat rate” USPS packaging. Often times, the package will get returned to you, or even worse- you’ll have to pay extra since it sometimes is even more than the prepaid label. My absolute favorite is the Tyvek envelope, I keep large quantities on hand because you can fit almost any clothing into it.
8. Get involved in Posh Parties
Multiple times throughout the day, Poshmark app hosts Parties within the app. These are real-time shopping events and they always have a theme with category requirements. Within your Closet, you can share the appropriate items to the party by sharing and choosing the party name. Voila! This is such a great way to gain exposure with buyers who are ready to shop.
Once each party ends, you can go to the different showrooms within each party to shop for curated selections of items shared to each respective party.
9am PST – Brand Party: We choose our community’s favorite brands and feature them in a brand-focused party. These parties include brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Fendi, Dior, Tory Burch, and more.
12pm PST – Category Party: Browse parties centered around fashion categories like “Hot Handbags”, “All About Boots” and “Just Jewelry”.
4pm PST – Department Party: These parties are focused on fashion departments like men, kids, maternity etc.
7pm PST – Style Party: Typically themed around styles and trends, such as “Street Style”, “Daytime to Date Night” and “Total Trendsetter”.
For more information on Posh parties, check out this official post from their blog with all of the details, even on becoming a host! (which I have not done yet but want to!)
9. Organize Your Closet
You will notice that most experienced Posh sellers have closets that are grouped together by categories. For instance, mine is sorted by clothing/accessories, plus-sizes, shoes, kid’s clothing, etc. with a graphic in between each category that highlights the items that follow.
It makes things so neat and tidy, not to mention much more appealing on the buyers end.
10. Add Your Personal Touch to the Packaging
Poshmark is huge on making the packaging pretty, including tissue paper and basically wrapping the items like a gift for the buyer.
While I am not huge on going all out on the packaging, I do always add a personal touch by wrapping my items with ribbon and including a handwritten “thank you” note. (I found some really cute little cards at Target that were $1 for an 8 pack with envelopes!)
I have received a couple of items that were beautifully wrapped, which I always appreciate and make sure to note in my feedback to the seller.
PS: Do you sell across multiple platforms? Vendoo is an excellent tool and game changer in the world of cross-listing. With this listing app, you can post listings on Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, Etsy, Grailed, Depop, Tradesy and Kidizen.
Let’s face it, posting across more than one platform is very time consuming. But with Vendoo, you can list on ALL of them at once!
