Did you know that you can start selling on Poshmark while working from home with absolutely no investment upfront?

I have grown my Poshmark business very part-time over the past few years. This work from home opportunity provides an excellent way for parents to contribute to their families income.

I have been selling clothing, shoes and accessories online for over 15 years (I started on eBay!) and I still love to share my tips and tricks that I’ve learned over the years. I do also run a full-time virtual assistant business from home that takes most of my time and energy.

But to be totally honest, flipping clothes is my favorite. It fills so many buckets for me beyond being able to work at home as a mom; I get to provide for my family and shop at the same time. I have always LOVED thrift stores so that is my main source of resale items these days.

However, when I started my Poshmark business, I did not spend a dime.

And I don’t think you need to either.

If we can avoid spending money to start making money, then there is really nothing to lose!

Investing as you grow your business is important later, but to really go grassroots, I have some ideas for you to get started.

Poshmark is by far my favorite app for reselling fashion. If you don’t yet have an account, you can sign up here using code “MOMMYHUSTLES” for a free $10 credit to shop with!

Here a few places you can source clothing, accessories, shoes & household items right now to get started selling on Poshmark (or ebay, Mercari, and other resale apps) and make an income online.

Your Personal Closet at Home

This is exactly how I got started selling on Poshmark!

I went through my entire closet, made piles, and started photographing and listing items right on my phone.

At the time, they were only allowing clothing, accessories and shoes but now you can even sell household items such as curtains, blankets, home decor, and so much more.

It really is that simple!

Ask Friends & Family

Everyone has that one friend/cousin/parent, etc that hoards clothes and complains that they have too much in their closet. We’ve all had items in our homes that we procrastinating on getting rid of – why not help them along with the process?

You can offer to take the pile off their hands and sell them on their behalf. You can offer a cut of the sales you’ve made from selling on Poshmark.

You’ll give them an offer they simply can’t refuse!

Search Facebook Marketplace

There are always people out there that are looking to offload boxes and/or bags of clothing. Why not do a local search of the Facebook Marketplace and see what is out there and available?

Sure, you may not get all brand names and/or desirable clothes but it is certainly worth the time and effort if you can turn some of them into profits. You can always donate the rest!

Local Facebook Groups/Swap Shacks, etc.

My small town has a “pay nothing” Facebook group just for the purpose of giving things away. It could be worthwhile to follow this type of group or even put up a post that you are looking to take clothes off their hands.

You wouldn’t believe the people out there that really do just hang on to things and would jump at the chance to easily get rid of it. Offer to go pick it up! It’s a win-win.

Our local dump has a “swap shack” where you can drop off things you no longer need and take what you want. It’s really amazing. I highly suggest checking into this locally to see if this may be an option for you to get items for selling on Poshmark.

Pro tip: I love to diversify the brands, styles and types of clothing in my Poshmark closet to get in front of as many buyers as possible. All of these ways will provide just that!

PS: Do you sell across multiple platforms? Vendoo is an excellent tool and game changer in the world of cross-listing. With this listing app, you can post listings on Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, Etsy, Grailed, Depop, Tradesy and Kidizen.

Let’s face it, posting across more than one platform is very time consuming. But with Vendoo, you can list on ALL of them at once!
