Did you know that you can turn your closest into cash using the Poshmark app? That’s right! Selling the items you have sitting in your closet right now can easily earn you money in just a few short steps.

Check out my blog post, How to Sell on Poshmark for Beginners!

As a longtime eBay seller and thrift store junkie, I have been flipping clothes (and other thrifty finds) for profits since I was a teen.

How I Turn My Closet into Cash on Poshmark

I have always joked that if I could turn thrifting for profit into a full-time gig, I would do it in an instant.

There are definitely a lot of people out there that do it on a much larger scale and make a full-time living. However, that is a whole business and wouldn’t work for me at this time in my life. But maybe someday!

But I have had a lot of fun and have made some great profit since I started selling on Poshmark in November of 2016!

So for now, Poshmark is my side hustle and I’m very happy with that!

Here’s the quick rundown of how it’s done (it’s super easy, promise!):

1. Create a Poshmark account and take photos of your items.

If you don’t yet have an account, visit Poshmark.com and use the code “MOMMYHUSTLES” at signup for $10 in spending cash! This also gives you access to start listing and selling your items within minutes.

2. Start listing your items (clothes, shoes, purses, etc!) on Poshmark

Take photos of your items in good lighting, research competition and list away!

Once your items are listed on the Poshmark app, interested buyers can “make an offer” or pay the price you set. That’s it!

No marketing, no extra costs.

3. Share, share & share some more!

Poshmark is a “social platform” in that it does prove to be more lucrative if you “share” your listings on a regular basis. This allows you to build a following.

Spread the love and share items from other closets as well!

4. Sold an item? Ship it, ASAP!

When your item sells, you’ll automatically get sent a prepaid label to print via email. Poshmark has a partnership with the USPS and the label is Priority Mail (usually 2-3 days). You can use any plain mailing box or you can get free packaging from USPS.

I almost always use the Priority Mail Tyvek Envelope, as they’re pretty large, flexible and durable.

You can even order these with free shipping from the USPS website. That makes things super convenient. Or you can pick some up at your local post office. You can also use the Priority Mail boxes, including the Flat Rate ones!

One thing to keep in mind: if you go over 5 lbs, Poshmark will charge you extra. However, that doesn’t typically happen when you’re selling one item at a time. When you’re selling a Bundle, it could happen though.

All buyers and sellers must live in the US. There is also a Poshmark Canada. Someday, they’ll make it international but I think this keeps things simple for now.

5. Once your buyer accepts the item, you get PAID!

Your sales on Poshmark will be held until the buyer “accepts” the item on their end using the Poshmark app.

You can track your items in the “My Sales” option and view tracking. When the item has been delivered, the status will change from “Shipped” to “Pending Acceptance”.

The buyer will have a window of time to “accept” the item manually in the Poshmark system and leave a review! However, if they haven’t accepted the item within 3 business days, your funds will automatically be released.

6. CASH OUT!

When your Pending balance becomes Redeemable, you can cash out your earnings to your bank account (or get a mailed check, that’s up to you!)

I frequent three local thrift stores on a weekly basis. One is a small non-profit agency and the other two are my local Goodwill and Savers.

Believe it or not, they are all different. Over the years, Goodwill and Savers have figured us resellers out and now jack the prices up on anything with a brand they recognize.

Our Goodwill seems to use $9.99 as their baseline for every brand name. Which doesn’t make sense for some brands like Old Navy or Chaps (the low end Ralph Lauren spin off sold at Kohl’s). But I still seem to find the best deals hidden in the regular racks!

I average a low-key monthly amount of around $400-500 on Poshmark but would love to increase this income when I have more time to put the effort in.

But for now, it’s a very passive income for very minimal effort, which I’m okay with!

PS: Do you sell across multiple platforms? Vendoo is an excellent tool and game changer in the world of cross-listing. With this listing app, you can post listings on Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, Etsy, Grailed, Depop, Tradesy and Kidizen.

Let’s face it, posting across more than one platform is very time consuming. But with Vendoo, you can list on ALL of them at once!
