Several years ago, my husband and I broke free from of our $200/month cell phone bill by making the switch from the yearly cell phone contract by moving over to the pay-as-you-go model.

Most cell phone providers offer their own “pay as you go” model where you pay monthly in advance for your service and bring your own cell phone.
Almost 6 years later, we’re still “free from the plan” and saving so much money!
When I was pregnant with our daughter and about to go out on maternity leave, we did everything we could to tighten our budget before she was born so that we could afford for me to stay home with her.
Going from two full-time incomes to a one-income household was a huge change to our lives at that time.
The very first thing we got rid of was our high cell phone contract.
Now, we each have around 8GB in data each month (and a lot of it even rolls over!) and we pay around $50 each after taxes. We also utilize their auto-pay feature which saves us $5 off each month.
When we broke free from the cell phone bill, I think we were paying almost $200/month for both lines. That is a significant savings, especially since things were very tight before I started working from home.
The one drawback to not being on a plan is that we don’t have access to the phone upgrades and instead have to buy our phones separately when needed.
We both have iPhones and only need a new phone once every 2-3 years or so, and I feel like their lifespans are becoming longer as time goes on as well.
Until a few years ago, I have always purchased our used iPhones on eBay.
Now, we get our iPhones from Gazelle.
Gazelle provides a super easy, quick and safe way for consumers to get used electronics or buy certified pre-owned devices at an affordable price and without any strings attached.
They will even pay cash for used electronics. I have done this with them too and they will pay good money for your used iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, etc.
Gazelle has all of the newest and hottest iPhones (and other tech devices including but not limited to iPads, MacBooks, etc).
They also have a partnership with Affirm, which offers very low monthly payments. My credit is not perfect but I was approved right away!
Purchasing my iPhones outright was a smart move on our part, but the two drawbacks there were that I had to shell out a couple hundred bucks at a time (unless I financed with Affirm which is also a great option!) and since I typically buy them outright, I am usually limited to an older generation iPhone (but seriously, it’s usually right behind the newest model).
My experience with Gazelle has been great. I even went back and purchased an iPad Mini through them. I plan to buy all of my future tech through Gazelle.
Also, they ALWAYS have coupons and deals going on so it’d be silly to purchase anything without paying attention to their promotions!
